The CFBTS oversees fundraising for the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Centre and ensures that funds are available for upgrades, as necessary, to the highly specialized equipment. It also provides the burn unit health care team with opportunities to attend continuing education programs to remain current in new treatment techniques.

Each year Dr. Robert Lindsay MB, ChB – Director of the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Centre and Lucy Weir RN, BN – Patient Care Manager of the Burn Unit join together and formulate a wish list of equipment that they would like to see purchased for the Burn Unit. This list is developed on a level of need basis and is influenced by the constant change in technology and infection control standards.

Provides the option of converting into a recliner with the ability to tilt to assist in increasing tolerance to the upright position and in standing.

Foothills Burn Survivor Group - $10,000
  •  The CFBTS has provided funding to help launch and sustain the first Burn Survivor Group for patients that have been treated at the Foothills Medical Centre. 

SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance In Recovery) Program - $5,000
  •  Training program for staff and burn volunteers on how to run a burn survivor support program.


Patient Transportation, Accommodation & Pressure Garments - $25,000
  • Many burn patients aren't fully covered for some of the enormous expenses that they incur in their treatments and recovery.  The CFBTS assists with these costs.

CFBTS Education Funding - $50,000
  • The CFBTS provides funding to allow the burn treatment staff to stay on top of the latest in burn treatment care and skill sets.  Some of the staff attend various conferences, including the Canadian & American Burn Conferences, where vital new information is provided and exchanged.  This information and training is then brought back and shared and practiced by the staff.  This component is one of the most vital that the CFBTS provides funding for.
