| For
the past 16 years, the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society, in
conjunction with Xentel DM Inc., have played a charity slo-pitch game
against a team comprized of sports celebrities.
Baseball greats such as Bill "Spaceman" Lee, Ferguson Jenkins, Denis
Boucher, Omar Moreno; and CFL greats
Tony Gabriel, Glenn Harper, Alondra Johnson and Bob Poley have participated.
This year the Celebrity Baseball game was held on Saturday, July 29th at Burns Stadium and raised $17,500.00 for the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Centre. The event started with a parachute team performing a pinpoint landing on the field. A vintage fire truck then deposited the Calgary Firefighters team at their dugout and the battle was on. The friendly rivalry between teams was evident, but good sportsmanship and fun are the theme of the day. Kids and adults alike were entertained by the mascots and festivities. Two skilled dog teams displayed their finesse at running an obstacle course between innings. The day wrapped up with a BBQ and beverages. For more information on this event; contact Xentel DM Inc at (403) 531-6157 and ask for the customer service department. |
