Here are some fire safety tips that you may want to refer to throughout the year. You can print a copy of this and place it on your refrigerator

Check alternative heating devices for safe operation.

Prepare and practice exit drills. Learn "Two Ways Out".

Check electrical plugs and cords for dirt or fraying.

Learn CPR, first-aid for burns.

Turn down your water heater to 120°F (48.9°C).

National Burn Awareness Week
1st Week of February

Check your home for fire & burn safety.

Visit your local burn center.

Check your smoke detector batteries and clean detector.

Help someone else do a home fire and burn safety check.

Spring cleaning for burn safety in the home... check chimneys, wood stoves and fireplaces.

Spring clean the garage too... check for storage of papers and other flammable products.

Teach Juvenile Fire Education to all the young people you know.

Learn first-aid for burns.

Change your clock and change your smoke detector batteries.

Clean your smoke detectors.

Store flammable liquids safely.

Practice exit drills - know "Two Ways Out".

Help a friend burn-proof their home.

Electrical safety - check wiring in your home and all appliance cords and outlets.

Learn and teach babysitting safety.

Be sure your water heater is set at 120°F (48.9°C).

Childproof the house for summer.

Clean your barbeques of grease build-up & use lighter fluid sparingly.

Practice caution around campfires.

Use gasoline carefully when filling your lawnmower.

Use sunblock whenever you can.

Review summer safety precaution list.

Watch for hot tar and coals on the beach.

Supervise children near fireworks - go to a professional display.

When travelling, know hotel and motel exits and fire safety equipment.

Poison and chemical alert - check under the sink and in all storage areas and store or discard safely.

Check smoke detectors and batteries for operation.

Always discard smoking materials in a deep or wet receptacle.

Watch for dry brush and grass.

Store summer barbeques and lawnmowers safely.

Clean chimneys and fireplaces for winter use.

Teach and review babysitting safety.

Have furnace cleaned and prepared for use.

Use flash lights,
not candles.

Work with your local fire department to practice Halloween safety - use flameproof or flame retardant costumes.

Change your clock, change your batteries and clean your smoke detectors.

Check all areas for fire hazards, around heaters and stored paper products.

Check kitchen areas for hazards - stove and ovens for grease.

Practice exit drills.

Check treelights and decorations.

Keep trees well-watered.

Don't overload electrical outlets.

Unplug all lights when leaving home for any length of time.

Check all smoke detectors.

Don't block exit ways.
